Err, umm, yeah…I haven’t really volunteered much in recent history. With the exception of an e-pen pal that I’ve had through Best Buddies International for the last three and a half years (we exchange an email about once a week), I really don’t volunteer much at all anymore.
The city I live in now has a very fancy volunteer website where you’re supposed to be able to find opportunities and connect with organizations. I tried this, but never got a response. I’m not putting this on the organizations because I could have reached out and I didn’t. Same for the rest of the reasons I don’t volunteer. I could have but I didn’t. I don’t really need to get into the rest because every one of them is an excuse. After teaching in a very challenging first grade class today, I simply don’t have the energy for more excuses, especially my own.
