#ReverbBroads12 prompt for June 1, 2012: With what fictional character (book, movie, TV, etc.) do you most identify? Why? via Kristen

I blame YOU, Chickering.

Are you shocked? While I loves me some LL, I hope think my life is a little bit more together than hers is. Well, most of the time. If you read the last round of Reverb Broads prompts, you might remember that I’m really bad at picking ONE thing. I’m also going to blame this on student affairs and my mad student development skillz. I do not have one singular identity so I cannot possibly identify with only one fictional character.

I’m struggling with this because I can think of characters would I would LOVE to be like because who wouldn’t want to be as witty and pithy as Rory Gilmore or have perfect hair and clothes with no wrinkles like Charlotte York or be a badass like Katniss Everdeen.

So here are my characters:

My hair is the exact opposite of this, but I love her.

Monica Geller – Friends:“I’m always the
hostess!” <– I feel this and many more of Monica’s quirks. Though I don’t have 11 categories of towels, I totally would if I had the space/finances to back it up. I’m a complete neat freak and I like things to be a certain way. Though I’m not freakishly strong or quite as obsessive (not that far off though…) I always identified with her spunk and the fact that things weren’t always perfect for her.

Matilda – Matilda by Roald Dahl:  Much as I am now, I was a very tiny person as a child and I had brown hair. Though I’ve never been a quiet person, I always admired Matilda’s ability to persevere and transcend crummy situations.  Though I can be pretty cynical at times, I am great at seeing the upside to things and figuring out a way to make non-ideal situations work.  It’s not as cool as moving inanimate objects with my mind, but it’s served me pretty well so far.

Lucy – I Love LucyAs much as I’d like to be a fabulous chef like Monica, things often go more the way of Lucy and Ethel especially when certain friends are involved. There is a lot of head shaking from the direction of my partner when I decide to do things. He does have a slight accent and often says things I don’t understand. Lucy is also always working toward something. Harebrained as it may be, I like a lady with a plan.

Just for fun, here’s my wish list:
  • Joan Harris – Mad Men
  • Peggy Olson – Mad Men
  • Claire Huxtable – The Cosby Show
  • Mary Richards – The Mary Tyler Moore Show
  • Olivian Benson – Law and Order: SVU
  • Leslie Knope – Parks and Rec
  • Daria Morgandorffer – Daria
  • Scout – To Kill a Mockingbird
  • Abilene Clark – The Help
  • Jo March – Little Women
  • Pippi Longstocking – Pippi Longstocking
  • Ariel - The Little Mermaid
  • Mary Poppins – Mary Poppins
As I re-read this, I apparently only identify with brunettes and TV characters.  Thanks, American pop culture.
Along with several amazing people, I’m participating in #ReverbBroads12, a month-long writing exercise full of interesting and thought provoking writing prompts that always seem to be the kick in the pants I always need to start writing again.
