#ReverbBroads12 prompt for June 6, 2012: Share a recipe or meal that is a summertime favorite. (Bonus: Pick someone else’s recipe or meal and make it, then blog about your results later on this month). via Amy
My mom always says donuts are her favorite food group. She also lives in a city with some of the BEST donuts known to man kind. Seriously. If you’re in the southwest Michigan area, seek these out. I digress. As I inherited my mom’s sweet tooth, my favorite food group is pie. I’ve said for many years that my wedding will not have cake, but pie.

Oh, Martha. I adore your WASP-y ways.

I often refer to summer as pie season. There is just SO much amazing produce available, it’s all I can do to not become a pie-making recluse who eats so much pie and becomes so morbidly obese that she cannot leave her own kitchen. Again, I digress. Back to fruit. Strawberries, rhubarb, peaches, blueberries, and the list goes on. Are you kidding me? I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they are all in season during the summer.
There isn’t one particular recipe I make, but Martha Stewart’s peach and creme fraiche pie has become a favorite. It’s fancy with the creme fraiche, but still good ol’ peach pie at its core. It’s at its best when it’s still slightly warm and served with vanilla ice cream. If you feel brave, make your own pie crust. This recipe is the best I’ve tried. Making your own crust is nothing to fear, but there’s no shame in buying a pre-made crust. After all, it’s about what’s inside that counts.
Along with several amazing people, I’m participating in #ReverbBroads12, a month-long writing exercise full of interesting and thought provoking writing prompts that always seem to be the kick in the pants I always need to start writing again.

Pie! Something else I’m too chicken to make. Maybe this needs to be the summer of attempting to bake?
This is pretty non-sequitur , but did you ever watch the show “Pushing Daisies”? The main character was a pie-baker and owned a pie shop. While the show wasn’t really about pie, per se, pie did feature prominently throughout the series. It was one of my absolute favorite shows. Only lasted 2 seasons…so sad.
Pie is such a good starter baked good especially because you can get pre-made crust. Most fillings are SUPER easy–cut up some fruit, add some sugar and a couple other things and toss it in. Minimal effort, maximum deliciousness <– my favorite kind of baked good.
I've never seen that show! I'm going to have to track it down one of these days. My partner LOVES it.
